Best Beaches & Island Hopping

Powder-soft sand, turquoise water, and how to island-hop like a local.

Quick answer

Which are the best beaches near Pattaya?

Jomtien Beach is the long, calm option good for families and walking. Koh Larn, a short ferry ride away, has the clearest water in the area. Bang Saray and Na Jomtien are the quiet choices. Pattaya Beach itself is the busiest and least appealing for swimming.

The Eastern Seaboard is your launchpad to some of Thailand’s loveliest beaches and easiest island escapes.

Top picks

  • Jomtien Beach: long, relaxed, great for families.
  • Koh Larn: a 30-min ferry to clear water & white sand.
  • Koh Samet: a weekend-trip favorite.
  • Bang Saray: quiet local beaches & fresh seafood.

Island hopping tips

Go early to beat crowds, agree boat prices upfront, and pack reef-safe sunscreen. Full itineraries are in our travel ebook.

From the local guide

Beyond the busy beach

Most visitors only ever see one stretch of sand. Step a little further and you will find the calm family beaches of Jomtien and Dongtan, the quiet local charm of Bang Saray, and near-island water at Sai Kaew, no boat required. Offshore, Koh Larn is the easy favorite, while Koh Kham and Koh Samae San reward anyone willing to go a little further.

Our companion ebook breaks down every beach and island by vibe, crowd, and what to do there, so you can pick the right one for the day you want.

Frequently asked questions

Is the sea clean enough to swim in?

Around Jomtien, Na Jomtien and Bang Saray, yes on most days. Koh Larn is clearest. Water quality along central Pattaya Beach is poorer, and after heavy rain it is worth waiting a day anywhere.

How do you get to Koh Larn?

Passenger ferries run from Bali Hai Pier in Pattaya and take about 45 minutes. Speedboats are faster and cost considerably more.

When is jellyfish season?

Box jellyfish are most often reported in the rainy months. Swim at beaches with vinegar stations and take posted warnings seriously rather than assuming they are routine.
